SMS & text messaging

Last updated: May 2026 · Operator: Roots Technologies LLC (Roots, we)

This page describes how Roots uses SMS (text messages) when you choose to sign in or verify your account with a mobile phone number in the Roots mobile app.

Consent in the app: When you enter a phone number on the sign-in screen and tap Continue, you ask us to send a one-time SMS with a verification code to that number. You may receive a similar code again when you sign in with the same phone number later. We do not use this flow for marketing or promotional texts.

What we send by SMS

Who sends the message

Messages are sent on behalf of Roots (Roots Technologies LLC) through our authentication and messaging providers (e.g. Twilio and related carriers). The sender ID or body may identify Roots or a short code as required by carriers.

Frequency & rates

Message frequency is low (typically only when you request a code). Message and data rates may apply according to your mobile plan.

Opt-out & help

Phone sign-in is optional; you can use email or another sign-in method if available. If your carrier supports STOP replies on toll-free or long-code messages, replying STOP may unsubscribe that number from further SMS from that sender where supported; for account access issues, contact support@joinroots.app.
